Visiting the Cathedral of Pozzuoli and the Diocesan Museum is a unique experience of its kind, but the boys of Puteoli Sacra are always looking for a new way to enrich the visit. For example, they also organize impromptu events.
The cathedral is a complex built in Greek or Samnite times as the capitolium of the city. Originally, it was a tuff temple dedicated to the Capitoline Triad, composed by Jupiter, Juno and Minerva.
The mixture between the two eras is highly suggestive. Thanks to the project Puteoli Sacra, you will be able to know and appreciate the artistic production of the great painter Artemisia Gentileschi: the temple is, in fact, a rare example of a Christian sacred place largely decorated by a woman.
In the lower room of the museum you will find artifacts made by the boys of the Regina Pacis cooperative for the IDEA CONCRETA project.
For groups of at least 10 people and by reservation only, it is possible to visit the Basilica of Pozzuoli ending with an aperitif at the cost of €10: wine and taralli will be available to visitors in the courtyard of the ancient Church of the Purification. In case of rain, a covered area will be available.
Access to the Duomo and the Museum is also possible without an aperitif at a cost of €8.
On December 23rd and 24th, and on December 30th and 31st, visits will take place from 9:30am to 4:00pm. On December 25 and January 1 Puteoli Sacra is closed.
Puteoli Sacra is a project born from a wonderful idea: the beauty that saves, art as redemption. The immense heritage of the area of Pozzuoli, in particular the Rione Terra, uninhabited due to bradyseism, comes back to life. Today it is a destination for tourists from all over the world: the management has been entrusted to young people from the prisons of Nisida and Pozzuoli at risk of social exclusion, which through art, culture, enhancement of the territory, have become a symbol of hope for all, promoting an innovative model of social reintegration.
