The Christmas season is one of the most anticipated times of the year for both young and old alike. During these magical weeks every city is filled with lights, decorations and decorations, creating an atmosphere that is nothing short of enchanting. In Campania, one of the most incredible places to breathe in the Christmas air is undoubtedly the Limatola's Castle, located in the village of the same name in the province of Benevento.
This ancient historic residence is located in the highest part of the town's historic center and was built by the Normans on what remained of an earlier Lombard tower. During the Renaissance, major restoration works were carried out that converted the castle into a stately home, while still preserving some defensive structures. After centuries of neglect, the building was renovated in 2010.
Today, Limatola's Castle is best known for its fantastic Christmas markets which take place between November and December. The event is called Cadeaux at the Castle, and each year the organizers choose a different theme with which to decorate the residence and stalls.
The hike begins in the small village of Sant'Agata de' Goti, where you'll see the Martorano Bridge and one of the main churches of the Samnite city between the Cathedral, the Church of San Francesco and the Church of the Annunziata. Next, you'll move on to the Limatola Castle Christmas markets to enjoy craft and antique stands offering a variety of items.
Children, on the other hand, will be able to take many photos in the company of Santa Claus and his elves. If you get hungry afterwards, there will be no shortage of stalls overflowing with local products, including liqueurs, nougats, donuts, cakes, sausages, cheeses and much more. Come and spend a wonderful day at Limatola's Castle, too!
