Informazioni su questo tour
The Christmas season is the most beautiful and evocative time to visit the city of Naples, which these days is festively colored. A magical atmosphere full of trepidation can be felt in the air, of which the historic center is the beating heart. During this special tour you will learn about Neapolitan nativity art and the craft tradition of Campania's capital city.
The experience includes Vanvitelli Square as the meeting point, and from there you will be accompanied on foot by a tour guide to the Charterhouse of San Martino which houses the Museum of Nativity Scenes. Where the former kitchens of the Carthusian Monastery were once located, you can now admire the main public collection of Italian nativity art, whose peaks were reached in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The nativity scenes you will encounter are not mere constructions, but true tales, masterpieces that tell stories as your gaze moves from one figurine to the next. Among them, the most famous is surely the Cuciniello nativity scene which occupies an entire hall. In addition to the traditional nativity scenes, photographic exhibitions are also held inside the Carthusian Monastery that tell the story of Naples in pictures.
Once this first part of the excursion is over, you will take the subway to Piazza Vanvitelli and get off at the Duomo stop to head on foot to Via dei Tribunali and Piazza San Gaetano. Here you will be given general directions for exploring on your own Via San Gregorio Armeno, the renowned street of Neapolitan nativity scenes.
This is an ancient street of Roman origin located between Spaccanapoli and Via dei Tribunali, where you will encounter numerous workshops of the nativity masters with miniatures and modern and ancient representations of the city, classic nativity scenes and unusual "modern" shepherds depicting iconic famous characters. You will be able to stop and admire the minute details of these works of art and, if you wish, take away with you a souvenir of this day to decorate your nativity scene or home for Christmas.
