About this activity

Are you a wine lover? You can't miss visiting the amazing MAVV, Museum of Art, Wine and Vine. You will experience the world of wine as cultural, historical, artistic and scientific heritage.

The museum promotes the wine sector as a resource of Made in Italy, in order to present Italian excellence in the world but with a digital approach.

Why visit the MAVV

Combining innovation and tradition, MAVV presents a interactive virtual reality, with multimedia exhibits, educational workshops, sensory paths, based on the close relationship between art and culture of the places on the Vesuvius Coast and the delicious local gastronomic excellence.

Through digital art, you will have hyper-immersive experiences with light installations that blend into the walls and floors. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a truly innovative narrative of wine and vines and discover their connection to art, history and culture.

Wine Experience and Academy Tasting

The MAVV, hosted by the Department of Agriculture of the Federico II University in the Palace of Portici, offers in collaboration with the AIS - Italian Sommelier Association, an educational-scientific museum tour to learn about the world of wine.

It is a real Wine Tasting Experience, with a mini course aimed at acquiring basic cultural skills, as well as knowledge of professional tasting and service techniques, at the end of which you will have a certificate of participation issued by MAVV Academy.

For groups of minimum 15 people, it is possible to enrich the experience by choosing the Royal Wine Experience & Academy Tasting, which includes a private guided tour of the museum and a tasting of three wines, with a final certificate of participation.

Browse the digital magazine Wine Experience with a touch screen totem monitor, diving into the history of the wonderful Palace of Portici. There will be videomapping, 3D video, monitors, video projections and music for a truly immersive experience. You will step into the shoes of a sommelier while tasting wine of excellence from the Vesuvian area.

Campania's viticulture is rooted in the heart of a fertile and fiery land, that of the Phlegraean Fields and the volcanic complex Somma Vesuvius. Excellent ventilation, the mitigating force of the sea, and volcanoclastic deposits determine unique and distinctive conditions for winemaking.

You will be able to try white wines with juicy acidity and great depth of flavor, made from Caprettone, Coda di Volpe and Falanghina and Catalanesca grapes, and red wines, with good aromatic intensity, moderate structure and caressing tannins from Piedirosso, Aglianico, Olivella, Sciascinoso and Primitivo grapes, all accompanied by local products.

As they say, good wine makes good blood, so what are you waiting for to make a reservation?

Lacryma Christi, on the slopes of Vesuvius.

Among the excellent wines from Campania is the Lacryma Christi, made from grapes indigenous to Vesuvius.

Already known in Roman times, its name comes from a legend. It is said that Lucifer, an angel cast out of paradise, descending to the underworld took a piece of it with him and sinking into the bowels, left behind a chasm from which Mount Vesuvius arose. Jesus recognized in the Gulf of Naples the stolen Paradise. Saddened by the theft he wept copious tears, and the slopes of the world's most famous volcano became so fertile that they gave birth to the first Vesuvian vine plants, hence the famous Lacryma Christi.

You will be able to purchase a box made by MAVV to try this particular red and white wine but not only. You will also find an aglianico and the book O vin chist'è by Angelo Calabrese, a vademecum of Campania Felix vinifera in a special edition for MAVV. A perfect gift for enjoying some time with friends.

"Vade mecum vo dicere: venire cu me. Si me puorte cu te, te te vine d' 'e vine d' 'a Campania, c' 'o cummento 'e qualche vierzo d'accumpagnamento, che serve sulamente pe pro memoria. Wine alleviates the hardness of fatigue, cheers the conviviality, enhances the joy of the feast, and every toast is a hymn to life."

Angelo Calabrese, art critic and historian

It is not a 'museum,' it is a UNIQUE EXPERIENCE! We are at the center of food and wine culture that screams desire for visibility. Visibility it richly deserves. Technology helps visitors who, in a space, not usual for a museum, go through history and places
