Salerno is not only the city of Artists' Lights, an exhibition of luminous works of art which gives it great popularity and a high tourist attendance. There are many interesting places to visit, such as the Arechi Castle with its panoramic view, or the romantic seafront, the extension of which seems even greater if we exit by one of the narrow roads of the historic centre, full of lights and perfumes. This is where the Schola Medica Salernitana was born. This was one of the cultural beacons of the Western Middle Ages, a centre for the dissemination of Greek and Arabic medicine, where the foundations of modern medicine were laid and where, for the first time, female doctors were granted access.
