Sorrento is a pretty town that overlooks the sparkling sea of the gulf. With its long and fascinating history, today Sorrento is a renowned tourist destination that has made hospitality its pride. Tourists from all over the world choose to experience the colors and scents of the City of the Sirens, a nickname that Sorrento gained thanks to the Odyssey: it is precisely in this stretch of sea that, according to Homer, lived the sirens who attracted the sailors with their melodious singing. Furthermore, Sorrento is the birthplace of Torquato Tasso, author of a masterpiece of Italian literature such as the Jerusalem Delivered. Piazza Tasso, the square that is the true beating heart of the city centre, is named after this great poet. The flavours of Sorrento are famous all over the world: no one resists the temptation to try the unmistakable gnocchi alla sorrentina or to taste the traditional limoncello prepared with the renowned Sorrento lemons.
