Located in the Vesuvius National Park, crossed by the Golden Mile, Torre del Greco is nicknamed the coral city for the ancient and noble tradition of processing red coral. The wonders of Torre del Greco come all from the sea, in addition to the opportunity to admire the art in the Coral Museum, Torre del Greco also offers gastronomic experiences to enjoy fish specialties such as squid, mixed frying or baked snapper and the unforgettable Mennella ice cream, which opened here its first location in 1969. Giacomo Leopardi, enchanted by these places, lived here for some time at the now famous Villa delle Ginestre, ex Villa Ferrigni. History enthusiasts can take a leap back in time at the Complex of the One hundred fountains, in the port area. A set of fountains that had the function of collecting water from a spring fed by the ancient torrent Dragone, now probably cancelled due to the volcanic eruptions that modified the Vesuvian lands. The archaeological area of Villa Sora is also interesting. Particularly important are also the Monastery of Zoccolanti, the only Renaissance monument still present in the area, the Basilica of Santa Croce with its Baroque bell tower, and the Church of Saint Michael, in whose adjacent library you can admire stucco and precious marble. In the historic centre you can go shopping and relax in front of an ice cream or coffee, while for lovers of nightlife Torre del Greco is perfect during the summer season. The bathing establishments animate the seafront with lounge bar and open-air discos and the city center is illuminated by the lights of the many clubs where you can stop just for an aperitif.
