The very name Agropoli in ancient Greek meant \"high city,\" precisely in reference to its strategic location. Moreover, different dominations can be noted here, which have marked its history and modified the local urban planning.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>However, Agropoli has managed to preserve its historic center and much of the original city walls. Today it is part of the <strong>Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park<\/strong> and its crystal clear sea is awarded the Blue Flag. But what to do or visit in this beautiful town? In this part of the city, it feels like taking a dip back in time and there are breathtaking views of the coast. To take souvenir photos one can stop on the<strong> climb of the Scaloni<\/strong> which for several centuries was the only way into the village.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>It is a long flight of low and wide stairs overlooking the sea. In the historic center we have a dense network of buildings and alleys of medieval layout, and you can still admire the <strong>gateway<\/strong> on whose arch is the coat of arms of the last local feudal family, the Delli Monti Sanfelice dukes.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Il_lungomare_cittadino\"><\/span><strong>The city waterfront<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>After exploring the heart of ancient Agropoli one can move to the more modern area of the resort. The best place to experience the nightlife and have fun is the <strong>waterfront San Marco<\/strong> which follows Agropoli's main beach, already a Blue Flag recipient.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Here you can relax with a drink or aperitif at one of the local bars or restaurants. Alternatively, it is possible to take long walks with the children or have an ice cream. In the vicinity of the waterfront there is no shortage of <strong>accommodations<\/strong> of various kinds such as hotels, B&amp;Bs, hostels, and private apartments for rent.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Il_Castello_di_Agropoli\"><\/span><strong>The Castle of Agropoli<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Agropoli Castle is another must-see. The monument is a <strong>angevin aragonese fortress <\/strong>which was intended to defend the people who lived inside the city walls. It is one of the symbols of the Cilento town, and it was the Normans who began its construction between the 11th and 12th centuries.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Major renovation works were conducted by the Aragonese in the 15th century, but what gave it its current appearance was the <strong>Sanseverino family<\/strong>. The building has a triangular plan with 3 circular towers on each corner, and there is also a deep moat and a drawbridge.
