This exclusive excursion will take you to admire the so-called Saracen Village, an ancient rock settlement about 6 km away from Matera, which tells us about the memory of an archaic people who centuries ago were able to adapt to a rugged but resourceful land.

To visit the Saracen Village is to take a plunge into the past, and you can discover how the ancients organized their lives in the midst of nature. The archaeological complex consists of 70 natural caves dug into the rock that in the past served as shelter for shepherds and farmers. Among these caves, two were used as rock churches, that of San Luca alla Selva and the Church of San Nicola al Saraceno.

The day starts in the morning from Matera, where you will be picked up by a bus to move to a private corner of the Murgia Park. Here you will make a'nature excursion of one and a half hours. Afterwards, you will reach the Saracen Village and concluded the guided tour you will have a tasting at a local masseria with tasting of Lucanian oils, cheeses, cured meats, breads and wines.

From Bari airport proceed on Viale Ferrari and Viale d'Annunzio and take SP54. After 5 km enter SS96 and continue for 51 km to the SS7 junction for Matera. Continue on Via S. Vito, Via Marconi, Via Annunziatella, Via XX Settembre, Via Lucana, Via Roma and Via Don Minzoni.

How to reach the meeting point by public transportation

From Bari airport take the bus to Matera and get off at the Via Moro stop. Continue on foot to Piazza della Visitazione, Piazza Matteotti and Bia Don Minzoni.
