In the municipality of Bacoli arises the Fusaro Vanvitellian Park, just around the lake of the same name. It is a historical complex in which both the Vanvitellian Casina Than the actual historical garden. The latter was built in the late 1800s and is of a large circular forecourt equipped for the parking of royal carriages. Today it is one of the landmarks of the Phlegraean Fields.

Numerous are the species of: Pittosporum, Date Palm, Dwarf Palm, Eucalyptus, Oak and the ever-present Maritime Pine. Truly peculiar plant associations since they are impossible in nature, but they work in creating a pleasant walking environment.

The Vanvitellian Fusaro Park complex, with its Royal Casino, was born as the hunting residence of the Bourbons. In this regard, the garden was designed, initially in 1827, with a large circular space for the parking of carriages and watering of horses.

It was only in the late 1800s that its design was changed, transforming it into the garden we can admire today.

However, in addition to being a place rich in vegetation with historical origins, today the park, is an environment where you can spend pleasant moments of relaxation. There are benches to rest, paths where you can take a walk perhaps after foretasting the delicacies of the nearby small restaurants, as well as being an unusual place where it is worth going even if only to admire its beauty.

Historical background, ancient and modern, on Fusaro Park

From the first century A.D., under the reign of the Angevins, the lake was used for the retting of Hemp. It was because of the stagnant water that the surrounding environment was enriched with vegetation, offering a prolific place for many animals.

Taking advantage of this, during the 1800s, the Bourbons installed a Royal Casino there, now known as Casina Vanvitelliana, and used the park as a hunting lodge.

Later, the waters of the lake, were used for fish farming and mussel farming.

This determined that in the 1900s the Vanvitellian Fusaro Park became the centerpiece of Campania's popular history.

In particular, during the 1960s and 1970s, in fact, hard popular struggles took place for the restitution of the Tarantino Campano Fishing Center, which included, precisely, lakes Fusaro, Miseno and the adjoining neighboring territories. These places were an important resource for all citizens but also for those who wanted to appropriate the wealth for their own lucrative business.

Thanks to the citizens' stubbornness, however, these struggles ended in 1997 when the assets of the Tarantino Campano Fishing Center, became the property of the people of Bacoli once again.
