Guided Tour
The city of Bacoli gives us magnificent views and incredible historical artifacts. The village, part of the Phlegraean Fields, exudes history, archaeology and art from every pore.
Discover with us the monuments, archaeological sites, scenic beauties and everything that the ancient Romans have left us as a legacy. Our guide will drag you into the past of ancient Bauli, which in the Augustan age later became the main military outpost and elective capital of politics, culture and worldliness together with nearby Baiae.
The tour starts from the municipal villa, which surrounds Lake Miseno, in whose waters is hidden the mythological legend of Aeneas' trumpeter. Walking through the villa you will also encounter the small fountain with the statue of Neptune, and a giant chess board accessible to all was installed in the same small square.
A delicious stop is the historic ice cream shop "Lake Kiosk“, more commonly known as “Michina”, the famous ice cream lady. Cool off with a delicious ice cream and start the tour!
From here you will go back along the ancient center of the town, dotted with various small shops, where you can clearly see the mural depicting the Cumaean Sibyl, made by the famous artist Jorit On the facade of a municipal building.
Along the way you will also visit the ever-present Mirabilis Pool, the largest and most monumental drinking water cistern ever built by the ancient Romans. You will be fascinated by the majesty of the architecture entirely dug into the tuff.
A few steps away is the route to One Hundred Chambers; an imposing hydraulic structure forming part of a sumptuous maritime villa that belonged to the orator Hortensius and then to Nero. A short stop near the historic one cannot be missed St. Anne's Church, patroness of Bacoli. With its three hundred years of history, it is still the religious symbol of the city today; raised above the road level, the entrance is preceded by an imposing staircase and the bell tower stands proud over the entire landscape of Bacoli.
Last stop the Tomb of Agrippina: along theMarina Grande strand stand the remains of an imperial-era monument known as the tomb of Agrippina, who was killed in 59 A.D. on the orders of her son Nero.
