About this activity

Villa Ferretti is a charming 19th-century residence located in Bacoli. The Villa is located in a cove between Punta Epitaffio and Baia's Aragonese Castle. Also part of the Villa Ferretti complex are the park, with its beautiful if small beach, and a recently built amphitheater, from which one can admire an impressive view of the Gulf.

The Park, confiscated from the Camorra and redeveloped, is now an asset open to the public and available for the organization of any cultural event.

Why visit Villa Ferretti

Thanks to state intervention, Villa Ferretti, was confiscated from the Camorra and then finally seized with the influence of institutions. Returned to the municipality, it is now a very important public asset that the community can and should benefit from.

An architectural and historical heritage site, the 19th-century residence is included within a vast 15,000 sq. m. park where social and cultural events are organized and have breathed new life into the structure. A meeting point and home of the people of Bacoli, a ping pong table, open to all, has also been donated to the park. The park, which is a point of sports and relaxation, stands on interesting archaeological remains of a Roman domus from the imperial era, the construction of which is clearly visible, erected with the technique of theopus reticulatum. In this Villa of enviable architectural beauty, one can also enjoy pleasant and carefree moments of relaxation thanks to the presence of a delightful public beach, which is very popular and frequented especially in the summer months.

The amphitheater, where the events are held, was built facing the sea to give all the vastness of the view of the Gulf of Naples.

The most important things to know about Villa Ferretti

Villa Ferretti Park has been redeveloped and chosen as a venue for social and cultural events, as the villa has now become a widely recognized symbol of rebirth and development possible only through the hard-fought restoration of legality.

History and interesting facts about Villa Ferretti

Villa Ferretti stands in the imperial age as a Roman domus. Surrounded by important cisterns and other residences, this villa could be attributed to patrician Cornelius Dolabella. To confirm this, a mask, part of a fountain, dating back 2,000 years was found during the restoration of the Villa Ferretti park.

On such archaeological remains, in the late 1800s, a wealthy Genoese shipowning family erected their summer residence. Thus was born the Villa Ferretti that we know and can admire today. For a long time afterwards, the Camorra clutched this precious Bacoli jewel in its clutches. With the aim of exploiting its historical and architectural beauty, the underworld wanted to build there a structure that would host ceremonies and weddings.

The state and the institutions wrested this historical, cultural and landscape asset from the hands of the Camorra, saving Villa Ferretti and returning it to the community where it belongs.

The picturesque setting at the foot of Baia's infamous Aragonese Castle was, moreover, used by Totò as a set to shoot some scenes of the film Operation San Gennaro. Today, Villa Ferretti, is still under the wing of the institutions that are working to complete the improvement work already begun. In fact, a project was recently approved to upgrade the tourist route that, from Villa Ferretti, leads to the Aragonese Castle of Baia. First but not the last step toward a tourist enhancement of our city and the beautiful town of Bacoli.
