About this tour

Vesuvius National Park is undoubtedly one of the most captivating and spectacular natural oases in Campania. To learn about its history and learn about its flora and fauna, we recommend this excursion tour walk along a trail made of robinia and oak forests that will take you to see the March 1944 lava flow, now covered with lichen.
You will walk along path No. 9, named Lava River, which proves to be fairly easy and consists of flatter stretches and others uphill. The start is set at an altitude of 568 meters, and you will find yourself following a simple trail through mixed forests with acacia, chestnut, black hornbeam and oak trees to a scenic area rich in Mediterranean scrub and lava from the last Vesuvian eruption in 1944.
Upon reaching this lava spectacle, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Bay of Naples, and from a distance you will also spot the Cognoli di Giacca and Trocchia of the Monte Somma. During the hike, guides will explain the trail's redevelopment systems and show you the remains of ancient water containment measures from the Bourbon era. Finally, you will retrace the trail back to the starting point.

Experience to try

A pleasant nature walk, where the now solidified lava is clearly visible, easy enough to do even with children. Along the way there are a couple of benches and a couple of tables where you can stop for a sack lunch. The guide who accompanied us was very thorough. Thank you!

Very interesting trail

Beautiful and dusty walk. A beautiful trail, nestled in the wilderness and on the slopes of Vesuvius. There are uphill and downhill sections, but above all the terrain is particularly "dusty" (because it is born right from the ashes of Vesuvius). Rich in vegetation and also rightly full of various insects. Along the way there are bulletin boards and posters indicating where you are and where you can go, and others, however, giving information about the flora and history of the place. Recommended for beginners and non-beginners, but with appropriate clothing to avoid having to throw away your clothing.
