The activity is provided by a group of professionals in the field of official guides who have been providing companionship for years to explore this part of Campania's trail network. Specifically, you will be able to walk the trail no. 5, that is, the one that goes all the way to the top of the Neapolitan volcano.
You will experience a spectacular ascent to the edge of Mount Vesuvius along the southwest slope to observe all its magnificence up close and relive its centuries-old history. Above all, you will be told about the eruptive period between 1631 and 1944, during which the funicular railway was also built.
Trail No. 5 starts at an elevation of 1,000 meters and reaches up to 1,175 meters through a series of scenic switchbacks that allow you to see the Monte Somma and the Umberto Hill, home of the Vesuvius Volcanological Observatory.
The trekking route will last about 3 hours and being of medium difficulty, it is suitable for almost all people. During the tour, guides will explain the geological, morphological and naturalistic features of the area, and you will learn about many animal and plant species Of great interest.
Once at 1,175 meters, a flat section begins, revealing several overlooks of the crater mouth. Once the tour is over, you retrace your steps for the descent and return once again to the starting square, where you can pick up your car.

    How to reach the meeting point by car

    From Piazza Garibaldi move onto Corso Lucci and Via Ferraris to take the A3. Continue for 10 km and take the exit for Ercolano. Then turn into Via Cupa Monti and Via Vesuvio. After 1.5 km take Contrada Osservatorio and follow the road for 400 metres.

    How to reach the meeting point by public transportation

    From Naples central station take Line L4 to the Ercolano Scavi stop. On foot reach Via Panoramica and take bus 5. Get off after 21 stops and continue on foot along Via Vesuvio and Contrada Osservatorio.

    Super guided tour

    Beautiful experience, done with my husband and our two children (5 and 8 years old). Tickets are to be bought exclusively online before arriving at the summit as there is no internet. Once through the gate you go up a dirt path. Upon arriving at the crater, the guide described the history of Vesuvius to us in a fascinating way. Very good, very well prepared and most of all able to engage and enthuse the children present!

    Unique experience, very beautiful! I recommend comfortable shoes, and to be provided with a ticket through the website. You enter half an hour before the time indicated on the ticket, because once you arrive you will not find any ticket office on site.
