About this activity

Visit the Cathedral of Pozzuoli and the Diocesan Museum is a unique experience, but the folks at Puteoli Sacra are always looking for new ways to embellish the visit. Impromptu events are also organized, for example.

The cathedral is a complex that arose in Greek or Samnite times as the city's capitolium. Originally, it was a tuff temple dedicated to the Capitoline Triad, consisting of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva.

The mixture of the two eras is highly suggestive. Thanks to the Puteoli Sacra project, you can learn about and appreciate the artistic production of the great painter Artemisia Gentileschi: The temple is, in fact, a rare example of a Christian holy place extensively decorated by a woman.

At the lower room of the museum you will find artifacts made by the children of the cooperative Regina Pacis for the project CONCRETE IDEA..

Puteoli Sacra

Puteoli Sacra is a project born from a wonderful idea: beauty that saves, art as redemption. The immense heritage of the area of Pozzuoli, particularly the Earth District, uninhabited due to bradyseism comes back to life. Today it is a destination for tourists from all over the world: the management has been entrusted to boys from the prisons of Nisida and Pozzuoli at risk of social marginalization, who through art, culture, and the enhancement of the area, have become a symbol of hope for all, promoting an innovative model of social reintegration.

Friday aperitifs (May through November)

Every Friday Puteoli Sacra offers you a unique and different experience: theaperivisita!

The tour includes admission to the Cathedral and the Diocesan Museum, where you can see paintings by Artemisia Gentileschi and Yvonne De Rosa's photography exhibition.
During the aperivisita you can enjoy excellent honey, cheese, mixed bruschetta and various appetizers with a nice glass prosecco.

Exciting visit to a beautiful and perhaps little known and visited place, but one that deserves it. The best thing was to learn that our guide is part of a social project to rehabilitate people who have had a prison experience. I recommend everyone and everyone to visit this wonderful little piece of our land and support this project!

The oldest settlement in the city of Pozzuoli, which in Roman times represented the most important port in the empire surpassed later by Ostia. For the past few years it has been partially restored and can be visited, although beyond the social projects for which it appears to be intended, it is still desolately empty. Very distinctive is the Cathedral of St. Proculus. Too bad that the plasters of the newly renovated buildings already show signs of sagging.

Beautiful route that I invite everyone who visits Pozzuoli to take. A very fascinating archaeological and religious route.
