Monopoly

A spectacular sea and a historic center full of monuments make Monopoly one of the most beautiful and fascinating places in Puglia. It is just 40 km from Bari and its historic center from the early medieval period is built on the remains of a Messapian urban nucleus dating back to the 5th century.

Monopoli is known for being the city of 99 districts which extend over a mostly flat area, clearly visible from the wonderful viewpoint of Loggia del Pilato. The symbol of Monopoli is the Carlo V Castle located on the promontory of Punta Penna and today home to various exhibitions and conferences. Instead, among the most beautiful churches there are the Co-Cathedral of the Madonna della Madia and the Church and monastery of San Martino.

In the countryside you can then admire many fortified farms, well restored and built in the period between 1610 and 1690. Also inland there is also the Lama degli Ulivi Botanical Garden which houses rock churches, natural caves and more than 2000 Mediterranean botanical species.

Monopoli offers beautiful things sandy beaches which make up a 13km coastline, made up of coves, ravines and cliffs. Some areas have been awarded the coveted Blue Flag for the quality of the water and the services offered. Among the most suggestive we have the beach of Santo Stefano, the beach of the Chapter and Cala di Torre Incina.
