Otranto
An ideal bridge between East and West, Otranto is located on the Adriatic coast of Salento peninsula, about 45 km from Lecce and is the easternmost municipality in Italy. It is built on a promontory overlooking the sea and is a magical land as it mixes the tradition of the historic center with the effervescence of the local nightlife.
UNESCO has awarded Otranto the title of Cultural Heritage as a Messenger of Peace Site. Walking along the Lungomare degli Eroi you reach the foot of the oldest part of the city, which is accessed through the Alfonsine Gate. Enclosed within the Aragonese walls, it is made up of an intricate tangle of streets paved with stone that point towards the Romanesque Cathedral, known for its splendid mosaic floor.
It is also very interesting Aragonese Castle, erected at the request of Alfonso of Aragon at the end of the 15th century. In the southern area of ​​Otranto there are wonderful natural areas, such as the former bauxite quarry and the emerald green lake. Further north, however, the coast is awarded the Blue Flag and among the most beautiful places to enjoy the crystal clear sea are Conca Specchiulla, the Baia dei Turchi, the Baia delle Orte and Porto Badisco.
