Enamored and lost with Kamaratón, after being rejected for asking her in marriage, the helmsman invoked the god Sleep, begging him to end her suffering. In the face of his agonizing death, the goddess of love Venus decided to punish the nymph turning it into a rock, that is, the promontory where the town of Camerota stands today, condemning her to watch for eternity as her spurned beau.
