About this tour

A seaside resort with a great food and wine tradition, Bari is one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Puglia. To learn more about the city, we offer a guided walking tour that will take you to the historic center of Puglia's capital city to admire its most iconic sites.

For this experience you will have the opportunity to experience a group tours or a private tour. In particular, you will be able to see the neighborhood of Old Bari, the beating heart that animates and makes this town unique. The real name of the district is San Nicola, but the expression Bari Vecchia was coined to distinguish it from the "new town" outside the ancient walls.

Along the way you will encounter the Cathedral of San Sabino, a splendid example of Apulian Romanesque style dating back to the 13th century. You will also see the Basilica of St. Nicholas of Bari, the most important Catholic building built in the 12th century to house the relics of St. Nicholas.

So you will have a chance to observe the Norman Swabian Castle, an imposing fortress that lies on the edge of Bari Vecchia and was erected at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia. Expanded during the 16th century, the structure was converted into a prison and later barracks.

Then you will have a chance to take a walk on the Wall, a 1.2-kilometer fortification that made up Bari's city wall. The excursion ends at Piazza del Ferrarese with some historical background on Borgo Murattiano and some free time for shopping.

How to reach the meeting point by car

From Piazza Garibaldi take Corso Lucci and Via Ferraris to enter the A3. After 3 km take the exit for A1/E55 and enter A16/E842. Continue for 165 km and take the exit for A14/E55 toward Bari. Then continue on E55 for another 70 km to the Bari Nord exit. After 4 km enter SS16 and SP236. Then turn onto Viale Tatarella, Corso della Carboneria, Via Brigata Regina and Corso Vittorio Veneto. To finish, drive along Corso De Tullio, Lungomare Imperatore Augusto, Largo Papa Urbano II, Piazza Mercantile and Strada Santa Teresa dei Maschi to Via Vallisa.

From Naples central station, take the train to Bari central station. Move on foot on Corso Italia and take bus 01 to the Teatro Piccinni stop. Continue walking on Via Melo da Bari, Strada S. Benedetto and Via Vallisa.
