About this tour

Apulia is a beautiful land full of enchanting landscapes and remains of ancient civilizations. One of the places to visit at least once is undoubtedly the Alta Murgia National Park, officially established in 2004 and located between the provinces of Bari and Barletta-Andria-Trani.

Today this nature reserve is one of the main tourist attractions in Puglia, where you can see many species of flora and fauna, as well as fossils, caves and necropolis. If you want to immerse yourself in such a special place, don't miss this guided excursion at Alta Murgia National Park.

Here you will be able to see the Lamalunga Visitor Center in Altamura that owes its name to the Lamalunga Cave, where the remains of a Neanderthal specimen dating back to the Paleolithic period, known as Altamura Man, were found. In the museum you will admire many historical artifacts and several 3D films will tell the story of these finds.

Then you will be taken to the nearby Cave of the Goat, a karst formation typical of the Alta Murgia area. The natural cavity has stalactites and stalagmites and probably hosted the Altamura Man. At this stage you will be told trivia about native plants and the geological heritage of this area.

Around 1:30 p.m. you will be treated to a nice brunch to taste typical local products such as bread, cured meats and Canestrano pecorino cheese. Finally, there will be an educational archaeology workshop on making stone jewelry, and anything you create you can keep as a souvenir.

How to reach the meeting point by car

From Piazza Garibaldi in Naples take Corso Lucci and Via Ferraris to enter the A3. After 3 km take the exit for A1/E45 and enter the A16/E842. Continue for 127 km and take the exit for Candela. After 200 meters turn into SP95 and enter SS655. After 4 km enter SS96 and continue for 20 km. Then turn into Via Gravina, Viale Padre Pio da Pietrelcina, Viale Chierico and Via XXIV Maggio. Finally, turn right onto Via Fornace Corrente le Fogge and continue straight for 4 km to the Lamalunga Visitor Center.
