About this tour

Bari is a major tourist destination in Apulia, so why not book a fascinating archaeological tour to let yourself be guided to discover the most significant and evocative places in the city? An ideal experience for history buffs and those who wish to delve into Bari's cultural roots through a true journey through time, from its Roman origins to the Middle Ages.
The tour begins with participants meeting at the designated meeting point, where a welcome and brief introduction to the itinerary will take place. The first stage is dedicated to the excavations of the Via Traiana in Piazza del Ferrarese, one of the best-preserved sections of the ancient Roman road dating back to the second century AD, a fundamental link between Rome and the East. It continues with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of St. Scholastica, which holds valuable collections that can tell the thousand-year history of Bari and its territory, from the earliest civilizations to the medieval age.
The path continues with the Cathedral of San Sabino, a splendid example of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Here you can descend into the striking succorpo, an underground itinerary that reveals the city's oldest layers and its transformations over time.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Basilica of St. Nicholas, a religious and cultural symbol of Bari, world-famous for housing the saint's relics and for its extraordinary historical and spiritual value. Depending on the opening hours, it will be possible to enrich the experience with a visit to two of the following sites: Simi Palace, Swabian Castle, the Crypt of the Basilica of St. Nicholas, the Cathedral Succorps or the Museum of St. Scholastica.
