About this activity

Don't make plans for the first Sunday of the month! An exciting tour of Baia Castle and the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Museum awaits you. The Aragonese Castle is located in Baia, a small hamlet in the municipality of Bacoli, and stands on a promontory overlooking the sea surrounded by natural defenses such as high tuff cliffs and depressions of the calderas of Baia's Fondi volcanoes.

The structure was erected in 1495 by the Aragonese, and with the addition of moats, walls and drawbridges, the castle was virtually impregnable. From its top there is a magnificent view of the Gulf of Pozzuoli and as far as Ischia, Procida and Cumae. Precisely because of its location relatively close to the Phlegraean sites, the Castle of Baia was later chosen to house the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields, which over the years is to house the most important artifacts found in excavations in the area.

With more than 40 exhibition rooms, the guided tour will introduce you to the millennia-long history of the Phlegraean Fields area, and you will see terraces, medieval towers, drawbridges and sections devoted to the history of Puteoli, Cumae, Baiae, Misenum and Liternum, as well as recent findings of Submerged Bay.

    Experience not to be missed

This beautiful castle over the centuries has been used in various ways, including as a military orphanage and to house earthquake victims from Irpinia. Since 84 it has been turned over to the archaeological superintendence of Naples and Caserta and now houses the Campi Flegrei archaeological exhibition. It is one of the must-see stops. Special thanks to the tour guides, good professionals.

    Definitely worth a visit

We finally got to visit the castle and it was a very interesting experience. Built by the Aragonese at the end of the 15th century, it is a fortress on top of a promontory overlooking the Gulf of Pozzuoli and in fact the view is breathtaking. Inside is the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields, a must-see!

    Very interesting theatrical monologue

Congratulations to the actors the monologue was great, you are great professionals. I only bought the ticket for the tour guide and not the entrance ticket because the castle joins the free initiative "Sunday at the museum" . I recommend making a reservation.
