About this tour
Bacoli is one of the main urban centers of the Phlegraean Fields, and its territory is particularly rich in archaeological sites and places with a history of thousands of years. One of the most beautiful and interesting places is the Archaeological Park of the Baths of Baia, a complex of Roman villas divided over several floors on the slope of a hill.
To admire all this splendor you can take advantage of a guided tour that will allow you to learn all about the Roman Baths of Baia. The site is divided into 4 sectors that make it easier to visit: the Sosandra sector, the Villa of Ambulatio, the Venus sector, and the Baths of Mercury.
The Ambulatio Villa, named for its covered portico, is located on the highest terrace of the complex and is distinguished by its black-and-white mosaic floors that housed residential rooms, a central hall, and a peristyle.
The Sosandra sector owes its name to the Roman copy of a Greek statue representing Aspasia, also known as Aphrodite Sosandra, which was originally located in the main hall of the structure formed by two spaces on the lower floor and a theater.
Le Mercury Spa are instead so called because they include what was originally thought to be a temple named after the god Mercury. In reality, it was a frigidarium, the magnificence of which is captured by the dome above it. The last is the sector of Venus which, like that of the Mercury Baths, was supposed to house a cult building in honor of the goddess.
