About this tour

Although less popular than nearby Pompeii, the Archaeological excavations of Herculaneum are a major tourist attraction in Campania. The site shows what remains of the tragic eruption of 79 AD that buried Herculaneum, Pompeii, Stabia and Oplonti. Since 1997, the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum has been UNESCO Heritage and most of the objects found here are now on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.
The birth of the site was due to a chance discovery following excavation work for the construction of a well in 1709. The first archaeological research began in 1738 and has been going on systematically since 1927.
So why not book a guided tour of the excavations of Herculaneum? The excursion begins at 11:00 am with pickup at the meeting point in Sorrento. From here you will depart to Herculaneum together with a specialized guide who will explain everything you will see.
The guided tour will last about 2 hours, and at the end you will reach a local vineyard on the slopes of Vesuvius to enjoy a glass of wine and make a light lunch with many dishes of Neapolitan cuisine. After you finish eating, you will return to the meeting point in Sorrento in the early afternoon.
