If you're in Ischia, you can't skip a visit to the symbolic Aragonese Castle.
The Aragonese Castle is one of the island's main sites thanks to its belvedere, monuments and history. During the tour you will be amazed by the world it hides within its walls: from the convent, the churches, the convent belvedere overlooking the village of Ischia ponte and Ischia porto, and even a Bourbon prison, the terrace of olive trees, once a garden and home of a poetess. You can discover this and much more on this guided tour of the castle.
A transfer will conveniently pick you up from your hotel to begin this fascinating guided tour. An experienced guide will tell you about the history that has kept the castle alive to this day as you walk through the halls, buildings and paths within. You will also have free time at your disposal to fully enjoy the incredible views and the peace that watches over this place: as you walk, you will be able to feel on your skin the centuries that these places have experienced, almost as if time had stopped in this part of the island.
At the end of the visit, the transfer will take you back to your hotel.
In the meantime, we'd like to give you a little insight into its origins.
The islet on which the Aragonese Castle stands originated from an eruption about 300,000 years ago.
The castle's pre-existing stronghold was long a refuge against barbarians, until Alfonso of Aragon gave birth to the present castle in 1441, complete with royal quarters and rooms for the court and servants. These rooms have hosted artists and illustrious figures, witnessing the wedding of Vittoria Colonna and Fernando Francesco D'Avalos, welcoming Michelangelo, Ariosto, Jacopo Sannazaro, and Giovanni Pontano.
