Would you like to experience something different from the usual and able to stimulate all the senses? Then don't miss out on this fantastic rendition of Dante's Inferno staged within the wonderful Caves of Pertosa-Auletta, formed about 35 million years ago.
This activity is also suitable for the school groups as it allows you to immerse yourself in Dante's work in a realistic and instructive way. So if you are a teacher looking for an educational and stimulating activity for your students, don't miss this show!
The natural scenery is highlighted by sounds, lights and other contemporary art installations that populate the approximately one-kilometer route. The show involves 30 performers including dancers and actors who play all the characters from Dante's Inferno.
You will be accompanied by Dante himself and going from cave to cave you can see Paolo and Francesca, Ulysses, Minos and many other poor souls from the first cantica of the Divine Comedy. No installation was needed to recreate the Acheron River since the caves are traversed by the Negro, an underground stream that created a waterfall and a pond.
The audience will be divided into groups of 35 people, and together with Dante they will set out to discover the ten circles of hell. Each circle will feature one or more characters characterizing it, bringing to life the verses of the Supreme Poet. After being welcomed by Dante, participants will pass through the door with the famous quote "for me you go into the city of sorrow..." and will be taken aboard a barge led by Charon To begin the adventure from the first circle of Hell.
Along the way you will see Minos, Homer, Horace, the lovers Paul and Francesca, Cerberus, Pluto, Farinata degli Uberti, Cavalcante Cavalcanti, Pier delle Vigne, Ulysses, Diomedes, Count Ugolino and finally Lucifer. The whole thing will then be made even more special by the walls covered with stalactites and stalagmites that give the experience a timeless magic.
