About this tour

The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) is one of the most important museum centers in the city. Precisely because of its extensive holdings of works of art and artifacts, it is considered one of the world's most important archaeological museums in the field of classical Greco-Roman art.
To visit the Neapolitan institution, we offer you this guided tour that over the course of two hours will show you the main wonders inside. Today the institution is composed mainly of private collections acquired or donated by patrons over the centuries, including the Spinelli, Borgia, Stevens, and Santangelo collections.
The Archaeological Museum is located in the Palazzo degli Studi, an ancient building erected in 1585 as cavalry barracks. The building is built on a part of the necropolis of Santa Teresa, burial area of the original Parthenope. In addition, a Neapolis station has been installed in the subway station below called the Museum, where a number of artifacts found during subway excavations are on display.
During the guided tour you will be able to see the three sections that make up the museum's exhibition. The first is the Farnese collection which includes Roman artifacts transferred to Naples in the 18th century.
Then there are the pompeian collections assembled in the Bourbon era with pieces found in the Vesuvian area. Finally, it is possible to see the Egyptian collection which brings together more than 18,000 objects, making the Neapolitan museum the third largest in Italy for the number of artifacts from Egypt.

The most beautiful museum in Naples

You cannot come to Naples and not go to the national museum. Here you can find all departments the objects found in the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum! As well as temporary exhibitions. The guide was outstanding. Experience to be repeated!

    Recommended tour

One of the many works commissioned by the Bourbons. A great museum. I really liked the section devoted to Greece. Very well displayed. Also the Farnese exhibition section with all the statues taken from the Baths of Caracalla is really very nice. There are many statues depicting the various Roman emperors. If you are a culture buff like me, it is a must see. Very kind and professional tour guide.
