On the western side of the enchanting and colorful island of Procida, there is a small but famous little beach, known as the Letter carrier's Beach. This beautiful horseshoe-shaped cove is a quiet and peaceful bay, with a distinctive dark sand of obvious volcanic origin, highlighting an incredible blue sea. The cove is the perfect place for a pleasant stop, any time of the year.
One of the most famous beaches on the beautiful island of Procida, is precisely the Postman's Beach. This peaceful piece of paradise, is situated under an ancient Benedictine Monastery which with its austerity in no way detracts from the beauty of the place. Instead, its presence adds to its charm, adding a note of mystery. The characteristic sandy beach, because of its shape, is really hot in the summer months, and its waters have a very shallow bottom, especially near the shore. Sometimes it can happen that on some days, algae carried by the current can be noticed on the shoreline. But as they say... "where there is algae, the sea is clean." So in case there are, do not be discouraged. Just go over and have a nice refreshing swim among the clean, turquoise waters of the island.
For snorkeling enthusiasts, we recommend getting a mask and flippers to explore the incredible rocky seabed, as well as the caves, reefs and coves, that surround the beach.
Much of the beach is free, but there is also an equipped lido in the area that offers services for a fee and a small establishment bar. There is no shortage of small restaurants and eateries near the beach.
Originally the name of the beautiful bay was: Pozzovecchio Beach. Its current name was given to it when on the island of Procida, "Il Postino," a famous film by the timeless Massimo Troisi. The location was chosen to become the set for one of the film's most intense scenes. Here, in fact, the main character Mario (played by Massimo Troisi himself), meets for the first time and falls in love with the beautiful Beatrice (played by a young Mariagrazia Cucinotta).
