Alberobello

Alberobello is one of the most beautiful and spectacular villages in Puglia. With just over 10,000 inhabitants, it belongs to the metropolitan city of Bari and is famous throughout the world for its typical buildings, the trulli, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.

The city is located in the so-called Murgia dei Trulli and is recognizable for its picturesque profile made up of these particular buildings with conical roofs made of dry stone and whitewashed with quicklime. Zodiac symbols, crosses and pierced hearts decorate each roof. Most of the trulli can be seen in Monti District which hosts more than 1000. Rione Aia Piccola is also very picturesque, where there is Casa Pezzolla, a nucleus of 15 trulli communicating with each other converted into the Museum of the Territory. Equally interesting is the Trullo Sovrano which hosts concerts and shows.

In Alberobello the churches also have the shape of a trullo, such as the Church of Sant'Antonio, recognizable by its dome of over 20 metres. It is also unmissable Basilica Minor of the Holy Doctors, inside which images of the Madonna del Loreto and Saints Cosma and Damiano are visible. Finally, Piazza del Popolo is the most modern part of the center of Alberobello, in the center of which stands the War Memorial and where you can find the town's Town Hall.
