Gargano

Gargano

Nicknamed "spur of Italy”, the Gargano is an area of Puglia that corresponds to the promontory of the same name nestled between the Tavoliere delle Puglie and the Adriatic Sea. It develops in the north-eastern part of the province of Foggia and is inserted within the Gargano National Park.
Today it is one of the favorite destinations for tourists who want to enjoy the beauties of Puglia. This area is full of small seaside villages that have preserved many of their medieval characteristics and inland agricultural villages that stand out for their agricultural and wine production.
Among the main tourist centers of the Gargano coast we have Peschici, Vieste, Mattinata and Rodi Garganico, while further inland we find Vico del Gargano, San Giovanni Rotondo and Monte Sant'Angelo. The largest town in the Gargano is Manfredonia, Municipality founded in 1256 near nearby Sipontum.
This dualism between sea and land is also reflected at the table, where the products of pastoralism and agriculture challenge local fish production. However, the prince of the food and wine tradition is theextra virgin olive oil which in the Gargano can count on a renowned species such as the Ogliarola Gargano.
