About this activity

Classrooms of all grades need stimulating and interesting experiences that can be both informative and fun. To give kids a unique and special activity you can choose this educational workshop Dedicated to Vesuvian minerals.

This is a guided tour in which students will learn about the hidden treasures of volcanoes and the history of the Vesuvius area through the observation and manipulation of crystals, minerals and volcanic rocks. There will be simulations and instructional videos that will illustrate the internal structure of a volcano to learn about the natural mechanisms that make our planet changeable.

Together you can build the young geologist's kit consisting of six natural minerals reminiscent of those typical of Vesuvius' eruptive history. Each pupil will receive materials to make up the kit and will then be told trivia and characteristics of the minerals in the box. The experience lasts about an hour and is ideal for all classes, from preschool to high school.

How to get there

How to reach the meeting point by car

From Piazza Garibaldi take Corso Lucci and Via Ferraris to take the A3. After 10 km take the exit for Ercolano. Enter Via Cupa Monti and after 1.5 km turn into Via Vesuvio. Continue towards Contrada Osservatorio and after 2.5 km turn into SP114 and Via Matrone.

How to reach the meeting point by public transportation

From Naples Central Station take the Sorrento line of the Circumvesuviana and get off at the Pompei Villa dei Misteri stop. From here take bus 808 and get off at the Ercolano-Via Vesuvio stop. Continue walking along Contrada Osservatorio and turn into Via Matrone.
