Passing through lemon gardens and ruins of medieval paper mills along the creek Canneto, you will get to the Ferriere Valley. We will find ourselves immersed in a fairy-tale atmosphere among forests and wonderful waterfalls. The mountains protect it from cold winds but it is open to warm-humid southern currents and subject to abundant rainfall.
Thanks to these characteristics, its microclimate has remained constant over time. Here we can still find many plant species from distant eras, such as the Woodwardia radicans, ancient fern that can withstand temperatures as low as -4 degrees Celsius. We will also be able to observe particular animals such as the spectacled salamander, named for the characteristic triangular white spot on the head in contrast to the black of the rest of the body.
We will continue to the medieval village of Pontoon, a fortified citadel that was very important at that time for controlling the valleys below.
We will then pass through the lovely Atrani, along the Dragon Valley, where, according to legend, a terrible dragon was hiding. It is the smallest Italian municipality with the highest population density in the province of Salerno, a set for numerous commercials and films.
Along the way we may also choose to visit the beautiful nature reserve, taking a small detour.
We will then cross the Valley of the Mills where you can visit the Paper Museum.
We will finally arrive in the beautiful town of Amalfi, the oldest maritime republic founded by Roman colonists in the 4th century AD. You can choose to have lunch in a trattoria or have a nice picnic surrounded by nature.
The Ferriere Valley is a wonderful protected area of the Monti Lattari Regional Park. A magical place surrounded by greenery that is located in the municipality of Scale. The valley in the province of Salerno is so named because of the presence of the ancient ironworks of the Amalfi Republic.
Super fantastic experience
