About this activity

The path of the Advocate is a splendid hiking route that combines the sacred and the profane and in which the landscapes of the Gulf of Salerno and the Amalfi Coast merge. The route runs from Vietri sul Mare to Monte Avvocata, near Maiori, where the panoramic view of the Coast and Capri is truly breathtaking.

This trail cuts inland from the cliffs, and along the walk you will see vineyards, lemon groves, old mule tracks, deep ravines, and old hill towns. The Mount Advocate, best known for the shrine located along its slope, is a pilgrimage destination throughout the year, reached via a path that offers extraordinary views.

It starts from the very ancient village of the Abbey of the Benedictines of the Most Holy Trinity of Corpo di Cava, a hamlet of Cava de' Tirreni, and then arrive at the Sanctuary of Madonna dell'Avvocata, located 1,000 meters above the Coast. After the long but spectacular walk, you will have the opportunity to relax on the verdant lawn of the sanctuary's forecourt. Once you arrive in Maiori, it is possible to go down to the beach, and on summer days it is advisable to bring a bathing suit to take a swim.

It is good to say that the Avvocata Trail is quite a challenging trail, with chestnut and oak forests, water springs and climbs. The hike of 12 kilometers will last about 4 hours, with an elevation gain of 700 meters. So, it is a suitable experience for those who are trained and used to walking. Therefore, it is important to wear hiking or sneakers.

How to get there

How to get to Cava dei tirreni by public transportation

From Napoli Centrale, take the train towards Salerno at Piazza Garibaldi, get off at Cava de' Tirreni. Once you reach the Cava de' Tirreni station, take bus 061 toward Badia at Corpo di Cava and get off after 21 stops at Via Michele Morcaldi. A few minutes walk away you will find the tour meeting point.

How to get to Cava de' Tirreni by car

From Napoli Centrale, take SS162 heading towards Corso Meridionale, Via Taddeo da Sessa, Via Emanuele Gianturco. Take E45 towards Viale Riccardo Romano in Cava de' Tirreni, then the Cava de' Tirreni exit from A3. Continue on SR18, SP299 and SP289i n the direction of Via Michele Morcaldi in Corpo di Cava. You will find here the Benedictine Abbey, the meeting point of the tour.
