About this activity

Naples has many vantage points from which to admire it, and the Belvedere of San Martino is one of the best: it embraces the entire city from the slopes of Vesuvius and along the entire gulf. It is a wonderful place of refuge away from the hustle and bustle, a meeting point for friends or even for a romantic sunset stroll. In one glance you can discover every corner of the city, all its alleys and historical places.

Why visit the Belvedere di San Martino

It is one of the most beautiful views of the city of Naples just a few steps away from the Montesanto funicular, a photograph of Naples from above from which it is possible to admire the entire historic center starting from the famous Spaccanapoli which cuts the city in two, the Monastery of St. Clare, the impressive Castel dell'Ovo, Plebiscite Square, the artistic Umberto I Gallery to the port with the Angevin Male and the Beverello pier. The belvedere is also surrounded by important historical buildings such as the Charterhouse of San Martino, one of the city's major religious monument complexes and Castel Sant'Elmo, medieval castle now used as a museum, both on the hill of the Vomero and connected by the Pedamentin, 414 steps dating back to the 14th century. Here you will also find restaurants and bars where you can try traditional Neapolitan flavors while admiring the most beautiful city in the world.

Charterhouse and Museum of San Martino

A St. Martin's you can not only enjoy a magnificent view, but also visit the complex, which consists of the Charterhouse of San Martino, the Museum and Castel Sant'Elmo. An example of Baroque art, the enormous Carthusian Monastery consists of three hanging gardens, four chapels, two churches, and about one hundred rooms. Two splendid cloisters designed by Giovanni Antonio Dosio, the Procurators' Cloister and the Great Cloister, are part of this complex. The former, built of white marble and a gray stone from the Vesuvius area, features a series of arches as well as coats of arms of the city's districts. The second, on the other hand, houses eight statues of saints, namely St. Martin, St. Paul, St. Peter, St. John the Baptist, St. Bruno, Magdalene, the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary.
