About this activity

Many women with fertility problems rely on St. Mary Frances by going to the Shrine of St. Mary Frances of the Five Wounds, and they sit on the famous Fertility chair To receive a blessing from a nun of St. Mary Frances.

The shrine is located at the beginning of the Spanish Neighborhoods in Vico Tre Re in Toledo. The church was built at the behest of Ferdinand II of Bourbon and completed in 1861.

The Story of St. Mary Frances

St. Mary Frances of the Five Wounds is the first Neapolitan saint, co-patron saint of the city of Naples and patroness of barren and pregnant women. Her name was Anna Maria Rosa Nicoletta Gallo and she was born in Naples on March 25, 1715, into a family of artisans.

Even as a child, Anna Maria was determined to want to consecrate herself to the Lord against the wishes of her father, who wanted a marriage for her to a wealthy young man from Naples. Anna Maria, despite mistreatment and deprivation, entered the Franciscan Alcantarine Third Order on September 8, 1731 at the age of sixteen, with the name Maria Frances of the Five Wounds of Jesus Christ.

Among his many gifts was that of prophecy; in fact, he predicted many events to believers and priests and even the French Revolution. Mary Frances received the stigmata, also every Friday and during the Lent felt the pains of Christ's Passion.

At age 38, he moved to vico Tre Re in Toledo in the home of Father Giovanni Pessiri, his spiritual director, to care for him. He died on October 6, 1791 at the age of 76. Her body was buried in the church of Santa Lucia al Monte in Naples. On November 12, 1843, she was proclaimed blessed by Pope Gregory XVI and canonized on June 29, 1867, by Pope Pius IX. On October 6, 2001, her relics were transferred to the shrine that now bears her name.
