About this activity

Vietri sul Mare is a small village in the Amalfi Coast and is particularly renowned for the production of handmade ceramics and majolica by local artisans. The history of Vietri ceramics dates back to the fifth century B.C., but it flourished especially during the thirteenth century, when these products became one of the best-selling accessories of the Republic of Amalfi.

Since the 16th century, not only tiles and kitchen utensils have been created, but also bowls, pitchers and more. Following the persecution of Jews, in the 1930s many foreign artists come to Vietri to offer their art in exchange for a safe place, and this has given new impetus to this ancient tradition. In fact, additional techniques and formulas for decoration have been discovered, as well as a new color such as "yellow of Vietri".

Today in Vietri, ceramics are an integral part of the landscape, and at every corner of the town you can see a craft workshop displaying tiles, vases, trays and many other objects. It is no coincidence that the Amalfi municipality has been named UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 for the richness of its cultural and artistic heritage.

So why not try this fun educational course on making and decorating pottery in Vietri? During the class, you will be shown every step of the pottery making process and learn the main techniques.

Se invece preferisci una mattonella, lavorerai su una superficie piatta, sulla quale potrai applicare la decorazione in modo orizzontale. Questo ti darà più spazio per creare disegni più ampi o composti, che potrai arricchire con dettagli e colori. La mattonella decorata sarà un ricordo perfetto da esporre o utilizzare come elemento decorativo.

In entrambi i casi, avrai a disposizione smalti e pennelli specifici per la decorazione su ceramica, e sarò al tuo fianco per guidarti attraverso il processo. Reach the point of interest by public transportation

From Naples Central Station take the train in the direction of Salerno and get off at the Vietri sul Mare - Amalfi stop. From here proceed on foot for about 7 minutes to Corso Umberto. The walk is about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Reach the point of interest by car

From Piazza Garibaldi in Naples take A3 from Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi and Via Galileo Ferraris. Follow A3 in the direction of Ponte Ramo Svincolo Vietri in Vietri sul mare. Take the Vietri Sul Mare exit from A3. Continue on Ponte Ramo Svincolo Vietri. The destination will be on the left. The route is about 50 minutes.
