We have now reached the 23rd edition of Comicon in Naples, the most important comic book fair of the south. This is an unmissable event for all lovers of comics, cosplay, games and animation, second only to the better-known Lucca Comics & Games.

Also for 2023, a "magister" of the fair is scheduled to participate, which is usually a well-known Italian cartoonist. For this year the choice has fallen on. Giorgio Cavazzano, famous for Disney cartoon stories and author of the latest cover of the Mickey Mouse 3518, in a limited edition and available only at Comicon or comic shops, dedicated to the Napoli Scudetto. A solo exhibition named Galassia Cavazzano will also be named after him.

Instead, the advertising poster for the 2023 event was designed by a great exponent of the new generation of artists, Mirka Andolfo, who is highly appreciated both in Italy and abroad. The appointment with Comicon is from April 28 to May 1, also at the Overseas Exhibition Naples. Tickets and 4-day passes sold out immediately, given the huge success of the festival each year.

Comicon 2023 guests

The program of the comic book fair is really packed with guests who will take turns over the 4 days. Among the guests at the event we have Zerocalcare who will soon land on Netflix with a new animated series called This World Won't Make Me Evil.

The public will also be able to meet graphic novel author Igort, Josephine Yole Signorelli, aka Fumettibrutti, and Italians Simone Bianchi and Simone Di Meo. Giacomo Keison Bevilacqua, Fraffrog, Dado and Sio will attend Comicon 2023 to publicly launch their new publishing house and animation studio Gigaciao. New comic book artists will include Lucia Biagi and Zuzu, while historical names will include Tito Faraci, Paolo Bacilieri, Tanino Liberatore and Gipi.

However, the fair will be enlivened by the participation of many international guests. From the world of American comics come Daniel Warren Johnson, already a nominee for several Eisner awards, and Jim Lee, founder of Image Comics and drawer of superhero stories. Representing comics of South American provenance are Marcello Quintanilha, who presents the graphic novel Listen, Beautiful Márcia, which won Best Book at the 2022 Angoulême Festival, and Tony Sandoval, also a graphic novel artist.

Then there can be no shortage of mangaka from Japan. These will include Miki Yoshikawa with his new comic A Couple of Cuckoos and Masashi Haneda, co-author of the manga Sekai No Rekishi (History of the World). To top it off, other music and film artists such as Cristina D'Avena, Valerio Mastrandrea, Slim Dogs, Tony Tammaro and many others will also take part as guests of Comicon 2023.

Exhibitions and other events at Comicon 2023

Among the various exhibitions that will take place during Comicon will be those dedicated to important authors such as Cavazzano, Simone Bianchi, Jim Lee, and Vanderbroucke. Then there will be the interesting I Hate Everyone! Demotivational Comics to Smile Less, an exhibition dedicated to the most disenchanted and cynical comics. More ironic and spicy is the exhibition ...E vissero tutti felici e gaudenti, which traces the all-Italian synthesis between eroticism and fairy tales, typical of 1970s comics. There will then be space for the exhibition dedicated to Aldo Di Gennaro, an author and cartoonist who has written the history of Italian comics in a career spanning more than 60 years.

Among the must-see events at Comicon we have the fun Cosplay Challenge Pro to be held at the Mediterranean Theater along with a kids' version designed for young cosplayers. In addition, the K-Pop Dance Fight Fest, an event celebrating Korean music, is also on the calendar.

At Comicon 2023 in Naples, there will be special days designed for fans of martial arts. In fact, to celebrate the 20th anniversary since the release of the film Kill Bill Vol. 1 there will be a meeting with choreographer Tetsuro Shimaguchi, who set up the Crazy 88 scene.

Finally, there will be a preview of the restored version of The Three of the Dragon Operation for the film's 50th anniversary with Bruce Lee and the 100th anniversary of the founding of Warner Bros.
