Porches it is a city on the slopes of Vesuvius that is definitely worth a visit. Famous for being the headquarters of the first Italian railway: the Naples-Portici, now National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, where about fifty historic locomotives are kept.
Portici is the site of historic residences dating back to the 18th century and especially of the Palace of Portici which was the home of the Bourbons. In addition to the Botanical Garden hosted by the royal palace, now home to the Faculty of Agriculture of the Frederick II University of Naples, Portici offers the natural spectacle of the view of the Gulf and Mount Vesuvius.
From the port of the Granatello, a place of Porticese movida with its seaside bars, you can see Vesuvius looming behind the station and the ruins of Villa d'Elboeuf. One is in the center of the Gulf of Naples and can admire Naples with Posillipo, Mergellina and San Martino. The islands of Ischia and Capri provide a backdrop for the colorful fishing boats.
Looking out at the end of the pier walk, turning your gaze to the left, in the distance you catch a glimpse of the wonderful Sorrento.
Portici is not far from Naples, and getting here is easy: the city is well connected via the Circumvesuviana and via line 2; the Pietrarsa stop offers a fantastic view of the Granatello.
