L'Irpinia Express is more than just a train as it is a true journey through time and landscape. You board historic railcars, the old ALN 668 restored, and slowly traverse Irpinia, an area of Campania rich in villages, nature and traditions that often remain off the beaten path of mass tourism.
The starting point is almost always Avellino, where you park, board the train and let yourself be carried on a slow-paced journey through valleys, hills, forests and small villages scattered across the countryside. Each itinerary takes you to a different village, and the great thing is that you don't just arrive since there are guided tours, alley walks, tastings, lunches in farmhouses, markets or local festivals. Throughout 2025 the calendar is packed: every month there is at least one weekend of departures, often more than one. They range from the colors of spring to fall festivals and special Christmas editions in December, with markets in villages whitewashed or illuminated for the holidays. The most frequent destinations are Calitri, Aquilonia, Castelfranci, Taurasi, Montella, Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, Conza, Cairano, and Lacedonia, each with its own special atmosphere.
