Bfarmyard is one of the most beautiful and spectacular archaeological areas in Campania. Located in the Phlegraean Fields area, it is a fraction of the municipality of Bacoli and today we can mainly admire what is left of the city's hillside, while a good portion lies on the seabed due to the bradyseism that characterizes the area.
Today Baia formally belongs to the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park. The main archaeological finds were unearthed thanks to impressive excavation campaigns that began in 1941, which unveiled bath complexes, villas, and buildings from the late Republican and Augustan and Severan periods. Among the most fascinating remains unearthed in Baia are the Temple of Diana, the Temple of Venus and the Temple of Mercury.
Another must-see gem is the Submerged Park of Baia, a marine protected area also known as the Underwater Pompeii because it has an urban structure similar to that of the city buried by Vesuvius. 2,000 years ago Baia was renowned for its hot springs and favorable climate, making it a favorite destination for Roman aristocrats and emperors. Since the fourth century AD, the slow sinking which caused the local villas to be abandoned. Between the 1960s and 1980s, the first statues and other objects were found, which are now on display at the Baia Castle.
With this day of snorkeling, you will have the opportunity to take a closer look at some sites of rare beauty such as Portus Iulius, Villa of the Pisoni and Villa in Protiro. There will be a special underwater trail for each one to observe these treasures kept at the bottom of the sea.
