Visit the excavations of Herculaneum

At 12 kilometers from the center of Naples we have Herculaneum, world famous for its archaeological excavations and on par with Pompeii has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997. In 79 AD the Roman city was buried by a mudslide and other volcanic materials following the eruption of Vesuvius. Excavation campaigns began here in 1738 and have continued to the present day, and today buildings, mosaics, paintings, wooden artifacts and textiles can be seen. Herculaneum also saw the discovery of the only library in the ancient world, which gave its name to the famous Villa of the Papyri.

Another destination to visit with schools is undoubtedly the archaeological site of Paestum, a place of exceptional importance and beauty, which is also on the UNESCO heritage list. Here we have the best-preserved Doric temples in the world and remains of Roman origin such as the theater and forum. Inside the Paestum Archaeological Park you can visit the Temple of Neptune, the Temple of Hera and the Temple of Athena, and you cannot miss a visit to the Archaeological Museum, whose best-known piece the Tomb of the Diver.

Visit the excavations of Paestum

In Campania, students must visit the Vesuvius for its combination of history, geology, and breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples. It is the only active volcano in continental Europe and is famous for the 79 AD eruption that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum. Vesuvius then offers a'nature experience incredible for visitors who can move within the Nature Park while enjoying its biodiversity. Currently there are shuttles and buses that go up to about 1,000 meters above sea level, and then continue on foot to the summit and crater rim.

Visit the Amalfi Coast

For your school trip, we suggest you choose the Amalfi Coast, an ideal destination for its exceptionally valuable cultural and natural landscape, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the views combining the sea and the coast and experience the local cuisine rich in dishes, wine products and liquors such as the limoncello. The most well-known villages are Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Vietri sul Mare, Atrani, Praiano, Maiori, Minori, Cetara, Furore, all renowned for the production of ceramics hand-painted. Also not to be missed in the area is the Sentiero degli Dei, a 7-kilometer hiking trail that connects Agerola to Positano.
