Home to the tourist port, Marina Grande, on the north side of the island of Capri, welcomes all those who land on the island; in fact, ferries and hydrofoils dock here, but it is also filled with souvenir stores and lovely little restaurants where you can buy a souvenir of the azure isle or taste typical Capri products.
Have you just landed on the island and don't want to wait to cool off in the Capri waters? You can take a swim at the nearby beach of Great Cove, the largest and most crowded on the island. An expanse of pebbles perfect for those who want to take a dip as soon as they arrive on the island or just before leaving but not for those who like it quiet, as it is always crowded. The sun leaves the beach around mid-afternoon, giving way to cool shade as evening approaches. Immediately after the hydrofoil ticket office is the beach at Marina Grande, reserved free of charge for people with mobility difficulties, equipped with a ramp that allows people to reach the sea in peace
For comfort lovers along Marina Grande there are also two bathing establishments, Le Ondine and Lo Smeraldo.
From here during the summer you can reach the beach at Palace by the Sea, better known as the Baths of Tiberius, either by typical gozzi or on foot, , a picturesque pebble and sand beach that serves as a shelter for the island's few rowboats. The sea is crystal clear and transparent. The beach is not suitable for children as the seabed soon becomes high; it is equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, and at the restaurant of the same name you can enjoy local specialties.
In Marina Grande you can buy tickets for hydrofoil ferries, buses and the funicular railway, for excursions to the world-famous Blue Cave or to reach the equally wonderful Sorrento. From here you can easily reach either on foot for the more "active" or by funicular railway the Piazzetta of Capri, i Augusto Gardini and the Charterhouse of St. James.
