The Amalfi Coast is world famous for its natural beauty, breathtaking scenery and the rich history that pervades every corner. Among the hidden gems of this region is the Sentiero dei Limoni, a fascinating trail that connects Maiori to Minori, two picturesque towns on the coast. This path is not just a walk among spectacular views, but a true journey through time, discovering the traditions and stories that have shaped these lands.
The Lemon Trail was, in the past, the main communication route between Maiori and Minori. Before the advent of carriage roads, this path was used daily by local farmers to transport the products of their lands, especially the famous lemons of the Amalfi Coast, known as "the yellow gold". This lemon, known as sfusato amalfitano, is a typical product of these areas, characterized by its elongated shape and intense fragrance, which make it unique in the world.
The guided tour along the Lemon Trail begins in Maiori, specifically on Reginna Course, where a brief introduction allows you to immediately immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the place. From here, we continue to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria a Mare, an imposing church built in 1505, which dominates the town of Maiori with its fascinating architecture.
After admiring the church, take the path leading to the hamlet of Torre, belonging to the municipality of Minori. Here lies the ancient Church of St. Michael the Archangel, a small jewel of faith and art, offering a glimpse of local spirituality and history.
The vantage point of the Belvedere Mortella is one of the most striking stops on the tour. From here, the eye is lost in the surrounding heights, with a view that embraces Ravello, and further in the distance, the villages of Amalfi and Atrani. This enchanting view is just the beginning of a path that, between stairs and paths, leads into the heart of the lemon groves.
A visit to the farm of Giovanni Ruocco, a local farmer renowned for his passion and dedication, provides an up-close look at the work behind the cultivation of lemons. Giovanni and his family have been caring for these fragrant gardens for generations, keeping traditions alive and passing on the love of the land.
During the tour, participants have the opportunity to taste the typical products, with extra cost, prepared from the sfusati lemons. Prominent among them is the delicious lemon salad of Amalfi, the citrus jams and, of course, the refreshing lemonade, ideal for recharging in the shade of the trees, immersed in the citrus scent that characterizes the air of these places.
The route continues through lemon groves, with the view continuing to amaze at every step, until we reach the picturesque Minori Square. Before reaching the end of the tour, we pass by the church of Saint Trofimena, dedicated to the city's patron saint. This church, with its imposing architecture and ancient history, is the last jewel to be discovered before plunging into the lively atmosphere of Minori's main square.
The tour ends in the heart of the village, where visitors can relax, reflect on their experience, and perhaps enjoy some more fresh lemonade, surrounded by the beauty and serenity of the Amalfi Coast.
