No fear for dog lovers: Naples is also one of the wonderful pet friendly cities!
In addition to being a unique city full of wonderful traditions that, despite various imitations, continue to belong to it: pizza, the narrow streets of the center, coffee, sfogliatelle, baba and many other delicacies wrapped in a unique, almost living nativity scene, it is also very welcoming to animals.
Vesuvius serves as its main symbol, and the smells and colors of the city imbued with history and tradition attract tourists from all over the world and all year round.
Visiting Naples with a pet: a pet friendly city
Our four-legged friends are great company and give us so much love. That is why as much as possible we never want to leave them at home and take them with us, especially on vacation.
Naples seems like just the right place to go on vacation with your dog. In fact, there are many wonderful places to visit with your four-legged friend. A nice walk along the Lungomare is just what you need on clear and sunny days, while those who love sports can opt for a nice run in the long avenues of the Real Bosco di Capodimonte, or those who love archaeology and want to stretch out in the province can visit the archaeological site of Pompeii with their dog.
Most parks in Naples allow dogs (subject, of course, to the rules we will discuss later), and our friend is sure to be delighted to accompany us and well received.
One historical site in Naples visited by tourists from all over the world is the Official Route of the Naples Underground to San Gaetano Square. Our four-legged friends will be able to quietly enter and discover the city's underground as well by going down to forty meters deep.
Do we want to enjoy a nice aperitif with our human and animal friends? Just look for the many bars that have joined the fantastic "Aperidog" initiative. They can be recognized on the fly as they display small bowls with water and kibble at the entrance.
To combat the heat, we can take a dip instead. Choose free beaches where the dog can freely follow you and keep you company under the umbrella. There are beaches completely dedicated to our four-legged friends: dog beaches such as Colpo di Coda located on Via Campana in Pozzuoli (Naples). These are equipped beaches where dogs can enjoy a nice day at the beach playing on the shoreline or taking a dip in the waves.
Visiting places in the company of our four-legged friends: here are the rules.
The rules that every dog owner must keep in mind in order to bring their friend along are few but necessary.
Dogs are often allowed in public places, such as trains, subways and parks. However, it is good, for others but often also for our puppies, that they are kept on a leash.
The muzzle may not be worn but it is mandatory to carry it, as well as the hygiene bags that will have to be used when needed. It is useful to always carry a water bottle and health booklet in your bag, just in case.
Few safe exceptions where the dog is not welcome
There are places where dogs, for certain reasons, are not allowed to enter. Most supermarkets tolerate the entry of small dogs, only if they are picked up. In the Chiaia district, for example, this exception is not sufficient, and the ban on dogs entering supermarkets is categorical.
Few parks, on the other hand, have the same restriction, such as the Villa Floridiana park in Vomero, or the Astroni Crater Nature Reserve and the Reggia di Caserta estate. Finally, some beaches in Sorrento do not allow dogs.
