The Carnival of Palma Campania returns in 2026 with an edition that is intense and deeply linked to popular tradition, capable of combining spectacle, identity and collective participation. The event, held in the Vesuvian town, is considered one of the most authentic in southern Italy thanks to the central role of the Quadriglie and Canzonieri, which enliven the town for several weeks.

The festival period and calendar

The 2026 edition runs between the end of January and the end of February, taking the community on a journey of rituals, music and theatrical performances. The calendar kicks off on January 24 with the Song of Occasion, a time when the Quadrilles present their chosen themes for the year. On February 1, the traditional Ratto del Gagliardetto takes place, followed by the most spectacular days of Carnival.

Quadriglie parades

On Feb. 7 and 8, the city becomes a huge open-air stage thanks to the Quadriglie parades. Hundreds of figures traverse the streets with impressive costumes, studied choreography and live music, offering a choral show that engages audiences and participants.

Staging and the Quadrennial Passage.

The artistic heart of the Carnival arrives on Feb. 14 and 15 with the official mise-en-scènes, full-fledged shows that combine dance, music, stage design and storytelling. February 16, on the other hand, is the day of the Passo delle Quadriglie, a widespread parade that brings the energy of the festival to every corner of the city center.

Mardi Gras and the Canzonieri

Feb. 17, Mardi Gras, is dedicated to the Canzonieri, a fundamental element of Palmese tradition. Through original lyrics and popular music, the Canzonieri tell the themes of the year with irony and critical spirit, using traditional instruments such as putipù, triccaballacche and scetavajasse.

Scrutiny and closing of the event

After the balloting scheduled for Feb. 18, the Palma Campania Carnival officially concludes on Feb. 21 with the final awards ceremony and a big collective party celebrating the work and creativity of the Quadriglie.

A tradition without floats

What makes the Palm Carnival unique is the absence of papier-mâché floats. It all revolves around the Quadriglie, large organized groups that build a complete project throughout the year, taking care of tailoring, music, direction and choreography, creating an entirely human and handcrafted spectacle.
