The June 2 Feast is a major Italian holiday and was established to celebrate the birth of the Italian Republic. It is celebrated every year on June 2, the day of the popular referendum in 1946 that sanctioned the end of the monarchy. Most of the celebrations take place in Rome, where the President of the Republic lays a laurel wreath to honor the Unknown Soldier at the Altar of the Fatherland.
On this day there is also a military parade along Via dei Fori Imperiali, in which the armed forces, police, firefighters, Civil Defense and the Italian Red Cross take part. In 2024, the holiday falls on Sunday, June 2 and so why not treat yourself to a nice weekend of fun and entertainment in Naples?
It is an excellent opportunity to visit the city of Naples, which is sure to be taken by storm by tourists. In fact, as it is the first Sunday of the month, most museums and monuments will have free admission. We at Movery we have come up with a series of experiences to spend moments of relaxation and fun in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
To begin with, we propose a walking tour in the Spanish quarters, perfect for fully breathing the essence of Neapolitan tradition and culture. The 3-hour excursion will show you votive shrines, artistic murals and some special places such as Pizzeria Brandi, Vico Tre Regine, Teatro Nuovo, Vico Totò and the Pignasecca Market.
Equally striking is the walking tour in the Rione Sanità, one of the most popular and picturesque suburbs of Naples. The walk begins at Porta San Gennaro and from here you will move onto Via Vergini and Piazza Sanità. You will then continue on to the Basilica of Santa Maria, the Totò's House and Palazzo dello Spagnuolo. In the area we always recommend eating a pizza at Concettina ai Tre Santi to dive into the true flavors of Neapolitan gastronomy.
Also in the historic center of Naples, it is possible to book a guided tour from Dante Square to Jesus Square. The sightseeing tour starts from Piazza Dante, and then heads to Port'Alba. Next, you will be guided to Piazza Bellini, where you will observe the remains of the walls of Neapolis. The tour continues on Via dei Tribunali, before reaching the Church of the Anime del Purgatorio, known for the worship of the anime pezzentelle. Finally, you will be able to see Via San Gregorio Armeno, the Monastery of St. Clare and Jesus Square.
Also unmissable is this Guided excursion to Vesuvius with transfer from Naples. When you arrive at the parking lot, you will proceed on foot to the top of the crater, and along the way you will be able to ask your guides about it. Once at the summit you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Gulf of Naples.
Among the must-see attractions on the weekend of June 2 is the Naples Underground site which extends below the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore.
