Would you like to visit Pozzuoli and Naples through the eyes of Sophia Loren? This is the itinerary for you. We will return to Sophia's visit in 2016 and then go to Naples, for new surprises, new evidence of the passage of one of Italy's greatest actresses.

Pozzuoli, Sophia's visit to childhood places

Sophia Loren was born in Rome but spent her entire childhood in Pozzuoli. Federico Salvatore recalls this, in the song 'If I were San Gennaro' saying that "Sophia from Pozzuoli speaks American today," and the actress herself has recalled her beloved city several times on public occasions. For example, when she told about the first time she attended a soccer game and was in the stands of the very Puteolana, Pozzuoli's team.

On July 8, 2016, the unforgettable diva returned to Naples to relive the emotions of her childhood, accompanied by her son Carlo Ponti Jr. and grandson. From the car, at a walking pace, she wanted to show her grandson the places dear to her in the Campi Flegrei. So from Naples she headed, passing through Agnano, to via Solfatara, where there is a panoramic view of the city. It is right here, at number 6 Solfatara Street, in the vicinity of theFlavian Amphitheater of Pozzuoli, located the modest house where Sophia had grown up with her mother. The journey continued through the streets where she ran as a child, the Solfatara volcano, the temple of Serapis and the seafront. An itinerary that is certainly romantic and full of beauty, like Sophia.

Honorary citizenship of Naples

On July 9, 2016, Sophia received the honorary citizenship of Naples at the end of a beautiful ceremony held at the Angevin Male. On that occasion he uttered these words:

The great Sophia Loren opens with a line <> Sophia jokes and begins her speech.

<> Sophia is moved.

<< I was trying to memorize them meter by meter to strengthen the memory, fix them in my mind and carry them with me forever.

Everything is magnificent today-Naples, this ceremony, this beautiful award, this reception of yours, the Dolce and Gabbana fashion show with the splendid dresses. Why do these days come to an end and not last forever?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone and thank you to my dear Naples. I always come there very often, hush hush I come there >> laughs Sophia, along with her audience as affectionate and moved as she is.<>

Sophia Loren is Filumena Marturano

Sophia Loren starred in many successful films but is most remembered by Neapolitans for the film Italian Wedding, based on the play by Eduardo De Filippo in which the story is told of Filumena Marturano, a woman with a past as a prostitute who falls in love with Don Mimì Soriano, a wealthy Neapolitan. De Filippo declared that he was inspired by a real-life woman who lived right on Via San Liborio. In vico San Liborio in Naples there is a mural a few steps from Piazza Carità, made by the Miniera association, which decided to pay homage to Filumena Marturano with a mural depicting the face of Sophia Loren. The mural is located under the plaque placed by "La Radiazza," a radio program hosted by Gianni Simioli, which reads, "Here was born and lived Filumena Marturano, made famous in the world by Eduardo De Filippo."
